About 'southeastern bible college birmingham'|Podcast - Keith Gibson - Canon of Scripture
Situated on over fifty acres of wooded land in Roberta, Georgia, Camp Eunice has been ministering to children and teens of all ages since 1975. Every summer, church youth groups spanning Alabama, Georgia, Missippi and many other southern states flock to Camp Eunice for a week of fun and Scriptural learning. From recreational games and swimming to Bible classes, chapel services and devotion classes, the camp has been ministering to people's lives and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ with unwavering diligence. Pastor Jon Aulds was named the senior pastor of Friendship Congregational Christian Church (FCCC) in Baxley, GA in 1965. FCCC was part of a larger network of churches throughout Georgia that met twice a year. Due to the cessation of their youth camping program, Pastor Aulds sought to establish his own summer camp ministry for the growing number of youth their church had gained. His own experience with camps in Louisiana and Kansas would greatly contribute to his knowledge of building such a ministry. After receiving permission from the South Georgia Association of Congregational Christian Churches, Pastor Aulds and several members rented Mount Bethel Camp, located in Ashburn, GA. From 1966-1973, children of every age met here during the summer for a one week Bible camp and were taught by three pastors who were close friends of Pastor Aulds and his wife. Volunteers from over ten churches throughout Southern and Middle Georgia aided the Aulds in their endeavor. Due to the large amount of success experienced by the camp over several years, Pastor Aulds decided he desperately needed his own land on which to construct a larger ministry. On July 24, 1970 a businessman from Crawford County, GA by the name of Mr. Millard Easler graciously donated fifty acres of land to FCCC and the network of churches. In loving memory of Mr. Easler's late wife, the camp was named Camp Eunice. Several volunteers from every church began to clear the necessary land and scheduled camp work weeks every month. Within no time at all, two dormitory buildings and a dining hall were erected. The dining hall was outfitted with a kitchen, large eating area, and an adult lodging wing. A small concession stand "hut", named "The Canteen", was also built to sell snacks and soft drinks to the campers. The first camp was held in 1977 with over 133 children and teens in attendance. Chapel services were held in the dining hall. In 1979, a permanent chapel facility was built with a large sanctuary area and four classrooms intended for Bible and devotion class use. Within the years that followed, more adult lodging, a craft room and a work office have also been built with much time, money and energy sacrificed from countless volunteers. In addition, a recreational pavilion complete with ping pong tables was added to the campus. In 2002, a recreational shelter facility was erected with a floor made of sand, to be used for game time. In 2005, two mobile trailers were donated to the Camp ministry and are now used for additional Bible classrooms. Pastor Aulds has been the official Camp Director of Camp Eunice since 1974 (previously the Ashburn location in 1966), along with his wife Loralee Aulds. Jon and Loralee have five children, all of whom have graduated from Southeastern Bible College in Birmingham, Alabama, the alma mater of my own parents: Stan and Annette Givens. All of the Aulds children actively attend church and are involved in several ministries, save for Danny Aulds, who served the Lord until he died in 1995. Ironically, my father, Senior Pastor Stan Givens of Northside Bible Church (www.northsidebiblechurch.net) in Mobile, AL, has been the chapel speaker and worship leader of Camp Eunice since 2002. Dozens of volunteers have journeyed to Camp Eunice to assist with every operation, including kitchen staff and cooks, counselors, class teachers, recreation coordinators, etc. I have assisted my father with camp worship sessions and music since 2006. Due to the overwhelming number of youth who attend, Camp Eunice is now split into three weeks according to age groups and school grades: Beginner Camp, Junior Camp and Senior Camp. Beginner Camp costs $55.00. The fee for Junior and Senior Camp is $65.00. The late registration fee is $75.00. In addition, campers are typically asked to bring $8.00 for camp T-shirts. Registration information and forms can be found at: http://campeunice.com/registration.aspx. Camp Eunice can be contacted at: info@campeunice.com or by calling 478-836-9104. Further information, including a daily camp schedule and list of items to bring can be found online at www.campeunice.com. |
